Parameters

indexInfo  IndexInfo
The index to add. Each of its columns must reference an existing element by unique name.

Return Value

The effective index: the newly added index, or the pre-existing index when an identical one (same ordered columns and directions) already exists.

Remarks
Adding an index whose ordered columns and directions exactly match an existing one is a no-op that returns the existing index, so identical (redundant) indexes never accumulate. Indexes over the same elements in a different order, or with different directions, are distinct and are added.
