Inside Dundas BI

June 2018 Issue

In this issue, we focus on customizing the visualizations you use to display data including Custom Diagrams and Geographic Visualizations. Our upcoming webinar takes this a step further and covers 10 Advanced Data Visualizations that are native to Dundas BI. In this July 10 webinar, we'll cover 3 categories of visualizations: relationship, unique charts and advanced tables. Part 2 of our Blog: The Case for Business Intelligence vs. Excel is also featured. Enjoy!

Home Screen Customization for Faster Navigation

Quickly finding the content you are looking for in an enterprise level BI deployment can be a difficult mission at times, even if your search is visual and fast. Depending on your data governance policies, your users may populate and thus find many similar views for the different datasets. One way users can speed up their navigation is by customizing their default home screen and creating their list of favorite views (you can think of it as saving visual bookmarks). Customizing the home screen is a simple matter of marking your favorite views with a heart.

Visualizing Geographic Paths

If your business is dealing with physical paths between two different locations such as transportation or delivery routes you may want to visually display the location of those paths and highlight to most significant or least significant ones based on measures such as number of people travelling along those routes or quantity delivered. Together with street level mapping your geographic visualizations can go down to the next level.

Custom Diagrams: Illustrate Your Data Results

It’s one thing to display your data and explain what’s happening, but it’s another to add a rich layer of storytelling to your visualizations to captivate your audience. Data is powerful, and can be brought to life and made even more compelling if consumers are able to understand it in the context of their business. A unique twist in how data is presented can heavily impact context, and bring about meaningful and actionable insights.

It’s important to visualize data using data visualizations that provide the right canvas and context for analysis. Read our latest blog on Custom Diagrams; a type of visualization that allows us to actually illustrate and visualize complex processes, along with their respective performances.

Blog: The Case for Business Intelligence vs. Excel (Part 2)

This is part two of a two part series on why companies should consider replacing Excel with a Business Intelligence platform for more effective decision making. If you’d like to read part one, click here.

As organizations acquire greater volumes of data from a dizzying array of sources, there’s a growing need to be able to consolidate and analyze the information as quickly and effectively as possible.

Part two of this series will focus on two processes: Scalability and Indifference.
